Crazy, Stupid, Love Movie Review

I was invited to attend a screening of Crazy Stupid Love Monday night in Burbank. I invited my friend Ro to come with me t check out this chick flick, cause she and I usually laugh or make fun of the plot, while secretly going awww. LOL

Well, this movie gets right to the point as Cal (Carell) and Emily (Moore) are having dinner and she blurts out that she slept with someone else. Right away Cal, is a changed man. He says nothing, does nothing, just leaves and gets his own apt. While being absolutely pathetic drowning his sorrows at a bar and telling anyone within an ear shot that his wife cheated on him, he is approached by Jacob (Gosling)- smooth, sexy, ladies man, who offers to turn him into a man that his wife would regret leaving. But, soon Jacob is being taken down a road he has never thought to venture before with Hannah (Stone). What happens in between is all Crazy Stupid Love.

I am happy to say that for once, Hollywood’s take on love touched me, as they actually showed 2 characters truly in love, and despite how crazy and stupid they both were, you just knew they loved each other. I also love that ladies man brought down to earth by a girl that was his true match- smart, sexy and genuine.

At some points, it kinda dragged but the highs made up for the lows, and I truly enjoyed this movie. Carell was perfect as Cal- both sweet and loving, with a touch of a man discovering who he is. Moore, I enjoyed, but not sure she was a scene stealer for me. Gosling, god, he is beautiful and was great as Jacob, and Emma Stone was that fun, cute girl she is in most of her films and did not disappoint. My favorite was Marissa Tomei as one of Cal’s rebouns– she was perfectly neurotic and hilarious.

Not as risque as other movies out nowadays, instead opting to explore how crazy and stupid love can drive us. It wants to teach us that Love, really is everywhere and when you find the one who takes your breath away—you hold on and try to never let go.

This is a date night movie for sure, and will leave you feeling happy and light hearted. So take leave the kids with a sitter, and take your love to see this. I guarantee you both will like it.

I love Steve Carrell in a bro way. He’s likable and entertaining. I wouldn’t mind watching this chick flick for the laughs… and the highs and lows you mentioned. I’m all to familiar about that. Thanks for the review!

Thank you very much for the review.

I’ll definitely check this movie out.

You’re right, most of the romantic movies that come out now are risqué. It’s quite hard to find romance films that really try to tackle the motivations, the factors that make a person seek love.

The last time I got captivated by a love story was when I watched “Sideways” starring Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church. And that was way back! So it would be nice to be able to watch one which focuses more on character development instead of selling sex.

  5. KA says:

Yup, very underrated actor, Paul Giamatti is. Do you have any other romantic movies you can recommend? Have you watched “My Life Without Me” starring Mark Ruffalo? I haven’t. But judging by the plot, I think it would be one of those films I’d want to have in my collection.

It’s nice to make friends with people who have the same interests as yours. So nice meeting and talking to you, Sassy Mama! :)

  9. Robin Q says:

And the beautful Julianne Moore is always fun to watch! I havent even mentioned the fabulous Ryan Gosling and Steve Carell yet !So how could this movie be bad?

  13. Renee Sapone says:

I kind of wanted to see this, but I have a feeling it would just make me mad LOL! I had that crazy stupid love thing going on and I don’t believe you should hold on to something when the person clearly isn’t doing right by you. I guess I’m just jealous that it always turns out better in the movies than it did for me hehe
