I have been meaning to write this for a LONG time. Then the holidays happened. Then I lost my job… and then and then and then.
It is now nearing the end of the year, and I want to get this all out finally. I have been blogging for 7 months. Yup- only 7 months. In that time, I have been lucky in that I made a lot of great friends. Friends that I would love to hang out with on a daily basis should they ever live in LA (hint hint). Then in November I had a HUGE event with some top bloggers and well, then I finally realized that Bloggers aren’t all alike. In fact, some are down right mean.
I got a lot of flack from that event- from bloggers more than anything. Here I was busting my ass, working on this event, and I was getting emailed, tweeted and FB’d mean messages and then, when I spoke to someone wholeheartedly, she took my words and flipped them to support her own view (which, by the way WAS WRONG, here is my interpretation, which is CORRECT). That event was eye opening.
After that, I started seeing more and more a segregation among bloggers. It seems to be if I have any reviews and giveaways on my site- I am a Giveaway Blogger and considered to “not have good content.” Basically, according to them, my site is not worthwhile because I have giveaways. Content bloggers look down on a site that has review and giveaways, for reasons I have yet to know. Non mommy bloggers hate “mommy” bloggers. And, if you so happen to be a deal/coupon blogger? You get the worst rep out of all in blog land.
Yes, the division begins from the way brands and reps measure our worth. But then we endorse it by hating on each other.
As a whole, we each have to fight to be even considered a valid media source and we each work our asses off to build our blogs to be bigger and better every chance we get. I don’t care who you are- R&G, Content, Coupon, Mommy, Tech- whatever. We each contribute something to readers everywhere. Whether it be posting about ways to save money by coupons, posting recipes, parenting, reviewing products, etc… let’s not forget that in the end we are all BLOGGERS. No matter how different our blogs are, we should support each other and not rip each other apart.
Is this something you have seen or been faced with? I would love to know your thoughts.
