When I meet people in real life that are readers of mine or have occasionally stopped by, one of the many things I get asked about is my Toyota badge. Questions like- oh what do you do? How is Toyota? What can you tell me about them? The usual. The one I love answering, is why I chose to endorse Toyota on my site.
This is why.
Once upon a time… ok ok.. it was about 2 yrs ago. I had a car. This car I had only bought a few months prior (acronym- Found On Road Dead) and…well I hated it. It died repeatedly and about 3 times, it died when my daughter and I were out of cell reception and it was dark.
The latest round of repairs was worth more than what the car was worth. I just could not afford it anymore. I needed a car that I could depend on, but I needed one to fit my budget. So after hemming and hawing (and since the man and I were separated at the time- lugging a 2 yr old, groceries, and my handbag many time), I decided…ok, time to finance and buy my first vehicle.
I was a 32 yr old woman buying my first all-mine car. And boy did they smell it on me. I live near a major street in Los Angeles that has about 10 dealerships in a row. I started with the closest- Ford. Not only were the people rude cause my kid was kinda antsy and wanted a balloon…but they just weren’t listening. They were trying to sell me pretty cars when I wanted safe and within my price range. Sigh. Next! Then came Honda, and Nissan, and bleh and blah… I did this daily for a week and I hated every single step. I started to beg my ex to come with me just so they wouldn’t try to sell me the pretty car or ignore my very real questions.
Extremely frustrated and just ready to go buy the first pretty car I had seen… I remembered there was a Toyota dealership near my metro stop. My ex agreed to take Sofia home while my brother stayed with me to check out a car. The very second I talked to a rep he looked right at me and ask… well what is it you need in a car?
So I told him- reliability, stability and durability. Immediately he said well that means you want a Prius (yay), a Corolla (woo) or a Camry (woo). Which would I like to see? Um.. I dunno… How much are they? What he asked next was amazing- “what is your budget- but make sure you think of insurance in that budget so I can let you know which car fits.” Woah! He explained that the Prius would be higher for me to insure, and the Camry next. The Corolla would be great and it was also in my budget for monthly payments. But he wanted me to drive them all to make sure it was what I wanted. I drove each car, and while I loved them all- the Corolla was exactly what I needed. I walked out that night with a car… and 2 weeks later I got a follow up call from my dealer asking if I was still happy with my purchase. I was, and still am 2 yrs later.
That service is what sold me not just on my car, but on the brand. For me, a rep that cared about what I needed both in the car and budget wise meant I could trust their vehicle, and that is why I became a Toyota Influencer. Cause I believe in them…and I want to make sure others do too.
Have you had a great car buying experience? I would love to hear who and why it was great!
