Bringing Family Back to the Dinner Table- Chipotle Chicken #ComerJuntos

When I was a kid, our household was big- it consisted of my mom, stepdad, my brother, sister, my grandparents and either my uncle or aunt at any given time. Everyone had different schedules, and having everyone under one roof made for quite the crowd but my grandmother and mom were determined. Everyday we ate home cooked meals- and we ate them as a family. It took some work (and a lot of spacing!) but we did it.

Now I have my own family, just me, the man and our little girl- and yet, eating together has gotten to be almost impossible. Our three schedules are crazy and he works a lot of evenings. Not to mention my daughter’s limited palette and my always on the go/working/I cannot be way from a laptop lifestyle….well, it’s hard! But if my Ita and mami could put together a meal for 8 and have us eat together almost daily, then I could make my family of three do it at least twice a week.

My hubs loves to cook…in fact, it’s what he wants to do. So getting us to settle on a family dinner dish had to be delicious. Sierra Mist Natural has teamed up with Chef Aarón Sánchez, star of Food Network’s “Chopped” and “Heat Seekers” to bring us a program that encourages families to gather around the dinner table to eat, drink and laugh while enjoying delicious Latin-inspired dishes. One such dish, is Chef Aarón’s Chipotle Chicken:

Yum! As soon as I showed that to the man, we scheduled our first family dinner where the three of us would all sit at the dinner table and eat a meal as a family. It has been a long time since we sat to eat together without the distraction of a TV, cell phone or laptop and I am looking forward to connecting with my family again- and over one of our favorite activities- eating!

This is so good to make time as a family to sit down and have dinner together! That is so nice that your hubby likes to cook! That is always an asset in a marriage! I always make sure that I sit down and have dinner at least 3 times a week with the family! We need to make time for this!

We try to sit down to dinner as a family as often as we can. Sometimes it’s hard with the kids activities and my husband’s job, but I know that the kids enjoy our family mealtimes so we try our best.

I love going out to eat with just my 9 year old son so we can focus on each other and talk. It is harder to do at home, but we try to eat dinner together then too. Thanks for the reminder!

I make it a point to eat dinner at the table every night of the week. Sometimes work gets in the way for some of us but regardless I always have dinner on the table. A lot of the kids’ friends say they didn’t think people ate at the table anymore. I was surprised by this. We grew up eating at the table every night and I wanted to carry that over into my life and kids. We have some great discussions and some not so great. But we are closer because of the time we spend together.

When you guys were younger ( You, Vero and Billy ) I felt that that it was necessary for all of you to have home cook meals…………….
Even though with my busy schedule with the help of your grsndma ( Ita), I would have not been able to make sometimes,,,,,,,,
I still remember the “days ” when out of the blue some of your friend ( s ) would show up to eat at the house and will say that they “they love my cooking / food so MUCH, thatt they knew I would never let any of them go humgry or ( watch while everyone else is eating)
But now that all of you have your own families, and 2 of you have kids ((my grandbabies) that I love so much, I don’t have 2 cook those big meals anymore, specially since I eat like a bird now ( not much at all)
since I have 2 watched what I eat n don’t really care much 4 food or meats much any longer,,,, But not 2 worry I do eat but just enough to fill me ……
But every NOW N THEN, I STILL COOK THOSE PERUVIAN DISHES that WE LOVE so much just following the TRADITION that I was raised N HOPED that has passed 2 one or 2 of you guys ( my children)
.I other thing I would like 2 say 2 is that I’M REALLY PROUD OF YOU for finally realizing what u wanted out of your life and doing it. -………..-…………….
AND I KNOW DEEP IN MY HEARtT THAT U WILL FULFILL ALL YOUR GOALS
I`M REALLY REALLY PROUD OF BOTH OF MY DAUGHTERS ……………………..
MY SON 2 But he still need a ( push) every now n then ) BUT I LOVE MY KIDS SO MUCH ( even though they r still a pain in the booty sometimes still ) hahahahaha ……………….. !!!!!!!!!

  12. Nichole J. says:

That is great! We also sit around the table for family dinners. When I was growing up we never did that but I want it to be a staple in our own home.

I like the article about Chef Aaron Sanchez, Chef Aarón’s Chipotle Chickensounds like something my family would like!

  14. Oh, Yumm does that sound good. When I was a teenage my friend Nilda’s mom would cook such great food I remember telling her mom the very same as your mom said above. I am only one now so cooking isn’t the same. My youngest is 18 and moved away.

I know exactly what you mean! Growing up it was mandatory that we all sit down and eat together, but now…. We might sit down every once in awhile, but there is always a TV on or cell phone ringing or something. Recipe sounds delicious by the way! Gonna try and have a sit down with no electronics :)

  17. Andrea Amy says:

we eat at home every night. i almost always cook from scratch, and we eat at the table. I’m always surprised that some families don’t do that, it just seems natural to me, and i think its a great way to catch up with everyone’s day.

  18. looks really good enough to eat right now
