Interviews With The Women of What To Expect When You’re Expecting

Last week, I had a chance to attend the press junket for What To Expect When You’re Expecting, the upcoming film based on the pregnancy bible that we all know and love. The men were so funny when discussing the film, that I couldn’t wait to hear what the ladies have to say- being that a couple of them were moms themselves.

Here are Jennifer Lopez, Cameron Diaz, Elizabeth Banks, Anna Kendrick, Wendi McLendon-Covey, and author, Heidi Murkoff talking about their character, their male costars and the miracle of life…

When Heidi wrote the book that would soon be dubbed “the pregnancy bible” she did not expect for it to take off like it did,  in fact, she said”…at that time- I was not expecting this- it’s been an adventure, it’s been a lot of fun…It’s been unexpected.”

JLo, who plays one of the film’s main characters was very familiar with the book and she stated, “I found the book to be so incredibly accurate, while I was pregnant, it was crazy- it takes you through everything,” and continued, “when you get pregnant, it’s the type of thing that people have talked about all your life but you know nothing about when it’s happening to you. This book helps you not freak out.”

Just like the mens panel, the women were very fascinated with their breasts during the filming- their prosthetic breasts that is. Cameron was so enamored by then that she flashed anyone that would let her. Including her costar Matthew Morrison, “he got to see my prosthetic breasts, my pregnant breasts which were really really AWESOME.” Oddly, that wasn’t the craziest story these women have to tell about their handsome co-stars. The craziest story award goes to Anna Kendrick who got a lap dance bought for her by the sexy Chase Crawford.

“Chase bought me a lap dance,” she says when asking about her costar, “it was my birthday on set and we went to The Claremont Lounge, it’s like an Atlanta institution- its sort of hilarious, they have 60 yr old women who are strippers- so that’ s awesome (sacastically). Uh, this woman dressed as little bo beep said this guy (Chase) just bought you a lapdance… and I didn’t know how to respectfully say no thank you. I kept saying ‘no, its cool, its cool’ but then I thought I was hurting her feelings. So, I sort of got a lapdance from a 60 yr old woman dressed as little bo beep.”

While Anna’s story about Chase was easily the craziest, the rest of the women had stories and compliments of their own for their male counterparts.

“My husband is played by Tom Lennon,” said Wendy, “who I also star in Reno 911 with- the first day I walked right past him cause I didn’t know who he was. I didn’t recognize him- he had dark hair and not in his hot pants.”

She was followed by Elizabeth who described a hilarious scene in the movie with her co-star, “I proposed on the day it was not scripted that I slap Ben Falcone across the face- and Kirk Jones (director) was like Ben what do you think, and I thought we would fake it, but Ben was like Let’s do it, he’s real method that way- just do it, just slap me and by the 4th take he was like I think we’re good- we got it.”

When Elizabeth and Jennifer were asked (as they were the only two actresses who were actually mothers) if the movie made them want to have more kids, Elizabeth answered calmly with “Whatever life has in store for me.” Jennifer simply said, “Yea, it would be a blessing. But, right now, I’m focused on those two (her twins Max and Emme) and getting it right with them.”

Make sure to catch What to Expect When You’re Expecting opening in theaters everywhere on May 18th.

  2. Sarah L says:

Love to have been there in person, but glad you got to be there and report back.

  3. Eileen says:

I didnt have the “manual” til the last two kids (of 6). Nothing much by then surprised me but my husband had only had one child and needed a manual for sure. I think the movie itself would be funny for any parent or parent to be. Interviews with the stars must have been a riot! I think it’s funny to get a view of what actors or celebrities think about such LIFE things. Sounds like they had a lot of fun on set. Lap dance by ol’ bo peep. wow…

  6. This movie looks so fun! What a book to turn into a movie… seems like they’ll be doing a great job with it!

  7. Marion Scharf says:

I, like most 1st time mothers, used this book regularly when DS#1 was small. It seems like an unusual choice to turn into a film as it is more of a how-to type book than a story. I am interested to see what this movie is like!
