For most of my life- I tried to fit in. I spent my child years always wanting blue eyes or light hair. My teen years wanting to be thinner, or looking like one of the girls on TV. In my twenties, living on the East Coast, I almost never spoke Spanish because I didn’t want to be labeled as the “latina girl.” I always wanted to blend in with the sea of other kids who didn’t have a mom yelling at them in Spanish, a last name my teachers could rarely pronounce, or just something as basic as a dress not fitting my curves the right way. I always wanted to blend in.
It has taken me several years, but I have come to the conclusion that I was born to stand out. I finally recognize that I am not only unique- but that I am fun, sassy, smart and I am one exceptional modern mama. I am a work at home mom to am almost 5 yr old princess. While I may make mistakes, and my home can be a bit of a mess- my daughter knows I am always here for her and my husband stands by me no matter what. I have an amazing family that can drive me a bit loca, but I never doubt that they are there for me 100%.
I look at all the blessings I have been given, and think back to that little girl who didn’t want to be different. If only she knew then, what I know now that all those differences are what made her awesome and it’s what makes me orgullosa to be me now.
