The Avengers Movie Review PS It’s Awesome #TheAvengersEvent

When you hear the title “The Avengers” immediately do you picture some superhero winning over the hot chick who usually falls into some sort of despair while doing something so stupid you want to yell at the screen and or throw a shoe at her?

If so, this is not that movie. Like, AT ALL and it still totally rocks.

I got a chance to see The Avengers at the Tribeca Film Festival, which not only was awesome cause of the movie, but we also helped honor some real heroes in New York City. After watching the film, I knew that New York was the perfect place to see it surrounded by such amazing men and women. Also? The Avengers was AMAZING.

The Avengers is based on the comic of the same name, but if you are a “fanboy/girl” you know there are several different “casts” of Avengers, and this is based after the first issue of The Avengers, but with several character changes and no SHIELD involvement really. However, unlike a lot of movies based on characters we know and love, the changes Joss Whedon makes not only fit the story but it fits the characters and the flow…and every character has their magic moments.

Marvel’s the Avengers is directed by Joss Whedon, and stars Robert Downey Jr.(Iron Man), Chris Evans (Captain America), Mark Ruffalo (Hulk), Chris Hemsworth (Thor), Scarlett Johansson (Black Widow), Jeremy Renner (Hawkeye), Cobie Smulders (SHIELD Agt Maria Hill) and Tom Hiddleston (Loki), with Stellan Skarsgård (Dr. Erik Selvig) and Samuel L. Jackson (Nick Fury).

The movie opens with Loki causing some mischief again. By mischief I mean making things blow up and being the bad dude that he is. His big plans involve stealing the Tesseract and using it to take over Earth while using an alien army to control us humans.

Nick Fury knows that he needs The Avengers now, even though the original plan never came to fruition, it was time to assemble. I don’t want to give the rest away, but what happens from there out is pure scripting/acting/action genius.

Each character was so fine tuned that it was hard to believe that they were “characters” rather than actors playing a part. Tom Hiddleston went above and beyond as Loki, I mean… I had been charmed by him hours earlier and during the film I was just thinking- this dude is EVIL. Conflicting emotions here. (I still love you Tom!) The real shiner here- was Mark Ruffalo as The Hulk. I know when it was announced he would play Dr. Banner/Hulk, there were a lot of doubters out there. Well, rest easy fanpeople of the world- this Hulk? Was awesome.

RDJ (sigh) was great as Iron Man once again. Delivering the wit that Whedon scripted perfectly so that it never felt kitchy or slap stick. Thor was, well… is it hard to imagine Chris Hemsworth NOT as Thor? Of all the castings, this was the most accurate and while Thor isn’t my favorite character, every time Thor was on screen I saw the hunky Nordic would be King (and I totally wanted a hammer).

But- it wasn’t just the guys that made this movie stellar. Oh no. The women in The Avengers were the the coolest, most bad-ass chicks ever. When I grow up I wanna be Black Widow or SHIELD Agt. Maria Hill. These women are fierce. Strong, intelligent and sexy…just like a woman should be. I think in regards to movie making we see way too much of that damsel in distress or that “dumb girl” who just defies common sense and does something stupid. I mean I have a little girl, is this really what I want her to think women are like or that they can’t be superheroes themselves? No way. So thank you Joss Whedon, Disney and Marvel for showing the world that a women can be just as fierce as a man and can save the world too.

The Avengers has it all. Action, a great script, fabulous graphics, powerful women, and heroes that everyone adores. This movie is easily the best superhero film EVER. So what are you doing here reading about it? Go see it NOW.

I’m serious. You’ll thank me later.

I received an all expense paid trip for this event by Disney/Marvel as media, however all opinions, and my repetitive it was awesome’s are completely my own.

Ruffalo does a great job with Hulk, I think. I really liked the Thor movie so I liked seeing the continuing dynamics between Thor & Loki. And yes to strong women!

I wasn’t familiar with The Avengers until I started reading about it on your blog. I am typically not into super hero types of movies, but this one sounds really neat. And it has an amazing cast! I love that the women in the movie are not portrayed as “damsels in distress.” I have a young daughter and totally agree that I don’t want her view of women to be that they are helpless.

Loved Thor, Iron Man 1 was just okay, 2 was terrible; Captain America was okay, I loved Thor. Did I say that I loved Thor? That will be the reason I will watch The Avengers and that the director is Joss Whedon (Angel, Buffy Firefly and Serenity).
