There are some things that will always be something I look back on and say- Wow, I can’t believe I was there. Having been invited to the White House as a Top Latina Blogger is definitely one of them.
LATISM was the force behind the Top Blogueras Retreat which included an exclusive invitation to the White House. The retreat was all about gathering an amazing community of beautiful, intelligent and strong latinas in the blogosphere today. We had sessions dealing with everything- content, monetizing, branding…it just go on and on. There were speakers from all walks, powerful women in top positions that spoke to us about their journey. I was most impressed with Catherine of HerBadMother and the Editor of Babble. She was so inspiring and a true supporter of storytellers and bloggers everywhere. Ana Flores, my friend and an amazing woman, mother and business woman spoke of her story and why she was driven to create her sites- Latina Bloggers Connect and Spanglish Baby and spoke strongly about keeping your voice and finding a way to make money at it.
Besides the retreat itself, the meeting at the White House…just, wow.

To have the chance to speak to members of the administration who worked under not only the President, but the First Lady, in creating and implementing initiatives such as Let’s Move and Choose My Plate. Also, we were able to line up and ask questions, and get real answers, and you know, us latinas? Yea, we kinda have a lot to say…check out the line within the first couple minutes:
The members of the administration answered or addressed each question head on, and they seemed very interested in listening to what we had to say. Our voice mattered.
The days in DC were moving and inspiring. I am so honored to have been there surrounded by such an amazing and powerful group of blogueras. I came home with a whole new outlook on blogging, on social media, and now, I am ready to think big.
