It’s the moment we knew was coming but we were kinda hoping someone would stop time or hooked up a DeLorean for us. Our baby girl, who is not only turning 5 later this month, is going to school on Monday. That’s right, it’s time for Kindergarten and while she may be ready (and excited), mommy and daddy are trying to enjoy the little bit of babyhood that is left.
Over the years, Sofia has turned into quite the fashionista (I blame grandma, the man blames me- heh). She picks out her own outfits and dresses herself without asking any opinions from us. But for Back to School, I got to have a little fun, albeit bittersweet, picking out those outfits that will be her first statement to her new school and classmates. The Children’s Place has been my go-to kid’s clothing store since before she was even born. Always stylish, and clothes made to last, I always have had great experiences with them and…they aren’t too hard on the wallet either. Which is good because my daughter LOVES clothes. My girl loves to sparkle, probably to match that glowing personality of hers. She likes to be girly but also tough and tumbling. So I picked a few things that I knew would get the Sofia seal of approval.
For her first outfit- I went with traditional with a touch of pizazz. A navy sequin tutu dress ($24.95) paired with a pair of pink sequin hodgepodge hi-tops ($29.95) with a pink glitter purse ($9.95) that I even want. Living in LA, dresses can be worn well into winter but, in the fall, as it begins to darken earlier. So a denim jacket ($24.95) is the perfect addition to add to this dazzling little outfit.
Ever the stylish chica, I wanted to make sure she had some fall colors, and more “autumn” look but definitely keeping it L.A. I’ve always been a fan of purples on my girl… her skin just seems to be complimented by many colors. This purple floral paisley chiffon top ($19.95) not only gave it that fall feel, but gave her a stand out color…and the faux suede shorts ($16.95) were the perfect addition for my little California girl. No look is complete (not for any woman anyway…) without the *perfect* shoes. A touch of color, style and season finishes off this Back to School style in the purple sienna boots my baby girl is sporting ($29.95).
While I feel a bit sad and apprehensive about letting my only baby go, she just looks so excited and ready to start the journey that the first day of school brings. I know, on the very first day we drive her to her new school and drop her off, she’ll look back at me with her dazzling smile… and I’ll still see that baby I brought home 5 yrs ago but I will also see this amazing little girl who will teach me even more than she already has. Maybe, just maybe… she’ll still let me pick out an outfit or two this year since she liked these so much.
Maybe.
Disclosure: I received the items noted above for my review from The Children’s Place. All opinions and thoughts are 100% my own.

I love all these looks! Those boots are so adorable with that outfit. I must have missed that dress because it looks fabulous with those glitter shoes! Way to go lil lady!
She is adorable! Hope she loves school..and thanks for such a great article. Takes me back to when my now grown children were going to their first day at school.
Your Daughter is adorable. I love all of her clothes and her shoes & boots too! <3
Cute clothes! And your daughter is precious. I can relate – my daughter is the same way with fashion. I love The Children’s Place. Shopped there when my daughter was younger – she’s outgrown their clothes now. I have a 5 week old son, so you can bet I will be shopping there for him.
