My family and I like to get out for dinner on occasion. However, with a rambunctious 5 yr old, it usually leaves us with only fast food options, which I am not a fan of at all. I may like to eat out, but I try to make sure we go places where there are healthy options, not just for my daughter, but for us too. Also…I like healthy but I need delicious too.
We got a chance to check out the latest SIMPLE & FIT menu from IHOP (currently available in the continental US). I was excited to try the new menu out as I was already a fan of their SIMPLE & FIT omelettes. Some of their latest additions are:
- IHOP’s Whole Wheat Waffle with Blueberries item includes one whole wheat waffle topped with lightly sweetened blueberries and powdered sugar and accompanied by a lemon wedge for a squeeze of fresh flavor. Served with egg substitute and 2 strips of turkey bacon
- Whole Wheat Pancakes with Blueberries includes 2 whole wheat pancakes topped with lightly sweetened blueberries and powdered sugar and accompanied by a lemon wedge for a squeeze of fresh flavor. Served with egg substitute and 2 strips of turkey bacon
- 3 new varieties of oatmeal that are made fresh in restaurants every day. In addition to a new Banana and Brown Sugar Oatmeal, IHOP has introduced its new Super Fruit Oatmeal, which features toasted Quaker Oats lightly sweetened with cinnamon sugar and topped with a blend of 5 dried super fruits – blueberries, dark cherries, cranberries, raisins and golden raisins. IHOP’s Super Fruit Oatmeal is also available with almonds and walnuts.
So we decided to have breakfast for dinner and headed to our nearest IHOP. It was a calm Thursday evening and we were sat immediately. My daughter made her selection quick (PS- all kids menu items are under 600 calories also!), and began her menu coloring right away. My husband tried one of the new signature pancakes and I decided on the Whole Wheat Waffle with Blueberries. We were served super quick and let me tell ya, that Whole Wheat Waffle with Blueberries was so delicious! I couldn’t believe that I was actually eating healthy because not only did it taste good, but the meal was pretty big too.
We enjoyed our food and I felt good knowing my family was not eating some fast food junk, but rather something on the healthy side. As we got our check, I was floored…the grand total for all our food combined was ridiculously low. How low? Check this out:
Yea…for 3 drinks and 3 full meals. In our area, kids eat free every day from 4-10pm, so essentially, a family of 3 ate on a budget of 2. I think IHOP has 3 new fans now.
