We knew it was coming.
My daughter is five years old and she is a Princess-aholic. When she was a toddler, she would gravitate towards pastels and sparkles (despite my extreme dislike of the color pink- this became her favorite). When she was about three, she discovered Disney Princesses. My mom has the entire DVD collection, which she would watch with Sofia whenever she babysat her. Soon, she was asking us to buy her the DVD’s. She even asked me once if I was following Disney on Twitter. My five year old knew Twitter. What? Then, came Disneyland where she got to meet her favorites.
So, this Christmas when I asked her to start thinking about what she wanted to ask Santa for Christmas…she gave me a quick “hmmm…” and literally, within a minute said, “if I’m really good mommy, will Santa bring me a Dream Castle?” Her eyes were dreamy and hopeful as she waited for me to confirm that would indeed get the Dream Castle. So what did I say?
“Of course Santa will get you the Dream Castle! But only if you are really really good!”
Her beautiful little face lit up as she swore up and down that she would be on her very best behavior You know what? She has been….so now guess who had to go search for a Disney Dream Castle? Oh boy. I headed to my local WalMart in search of the castle. My WalMart was already looking festive:
I then ventured straight to the toy section where I was consumed by everything Disney Princess.
Sticking out of almost every aisle where the layaway signs. I was very interested in that because as it turns out, the Mattel Disney Dream Castle was $139!! Santa isn’t rich you know.
I asked one of the employees about the layaway plan and she said it was very excited and I only needed to put $5 plus $10 0r 10% down (whichever is greater) and my items had to be each at least $15, and the total sale had to be over $50. The castle was well over and to put one on Layaway I would have only needed about $18. I was sold. (You can see my entire experience on my Google Plus album)
I went in search of the dream castle… and each corner I turned I looked for that huge pink castle. But there was none. I saw an associate working in the toy section and I asked him where I could find it. He told me they weren’t selling it in store, only online or possibly at the other Wal-Mart (which was 40 mins away in no traffic). So I left empty handed. Still determined to get my baby girl the only thing she asked for, I got home and immediately went online. There it was!
The ordering process was so easy and gave me several options for shipping.
Since I didn’t need it right away, I stuck with the regular shipping which is free if you order over $50.
So Santa did his job! In the meanwhile, I introduced my daughter to an app called Disney Royal Ball. It is free on both Android/Apple Stores and it allows all little princesses to feel like they are getting ready for a ball! You can pick your outfit (consisting of a dress, tiara, necklace and shoes- of course), your carriage and then get a dance lesson. You can even take a picture in the out you have selected!
I can’t wait to see how excited she will be when she sees what Santa brings!
