Sassy Mama’s 2013 Gift Guide with Best Buy (Gifts for Kids Edition)

Kids are getting harder and harder to shop for. Just your average doll or action figure just won’t do anymore. As kids get exposed more and more to today’s technology, it’s up to us as parents to control just how much exposure, and what kind, we want them to have. For this edition of my Best Buy Gift Guide- Gift for Kids, I picked a few tech pieces but also, some fun pieces that allow for childlike fun and imagination to take over.

Top Five Gifts for Kids

kidizoom

Vtech Kidizoom 1.3MP Camera- Currently $29.99, Regular $39.99

I don’t know about your kiddos, but mine just LOVES taking pictures. I mean, she has taken over some of my older point and shoots and documented her day to day happenings. It’s always a treat for me to see what she has shot and memorilized throughout her day as I am uploading  them to the computer. The VTech Kidizoom is the perfect way to get your kids started in picture taking. Not only is this little camera perfect for child hands, but it is sturdy and durable. The picture quality isn’t the best when you have a moving object but most kids don’t care about that. This is just meant to learn how to take a picture, and to have fun, which it achieves.

cotton candy maker

Nostalgia Electrics – Hard Candy Cotton Candy Maker – Pink- Currently $49.99, Regular $49.99

It’s no secret that kids love cotton candy. But did you know they love to make it too? You’ll find out just how much when you bring this awesome cotton candy maker home. You can make cotton candy out of sugar or hard candies and is a ton of fun to make. It can get messy, but kids are guaranteed a great time when they are making their own favorite flavors with this delicious machine.

Under $100

karaoke

GPX – CD+G Karaoke System with 5″ Black-and-White Monitor- Currently $64.99, Regular $89.99

Here’s a little secret about me most people don’t know. My very first full time job was working at a Karaoke store. Yup. I loved every single second of it. I got to demo and play with some top of the line equipment, we’re talking in the thousands…all the time. The machines were always a hit with the kids, so when my daughter started singing along to songs she loves, a karaoke machine was the first thing I thought of. CD+Gs are sold online via various sites and you can find practically any song you want. Which is fabulous for kids… from kids’s classics to modern stuff like Carly Rae Jepsen and Justin Bieber, your kids can sing their hearts out. So you can record and threaten to YouTube it later.

popcorn maker

Nostalgia Electrics – Retro Kettle Popcorn Maker - Currently $63.99, Regular $79.99

Remember how fun it was to hold that aluminum make shift pan over a flame and listening to each kernel begin to pop. This is kinda along those lines. Pour some kernels in and listen as each begins to pop and then you and the kiddos can enjoy a movie night in with popcorn made from this Retro looking machine. Get your kids watching some of your childhood favorites and enjoy spending time together.

The splurge that will finally make your kids think you’re cool (well…for a few days anyway)

kindle fire HD

Amazon Kindle Fire HD (16GB)- Currently $199.00, Regular $199.00

When I received my original Amazon Kindle Fire, I was in love. It was the little e-reader that did it all. Quickly though, it became my daughter’s tablet. The Kindle Fire is a great tablet for kids as it has great parental controls and plenty of apps for kids. Not to mention Netflix and Hulu apps. My daughter favors Zoodles, the kids app- and I like it cause it send me progress reports and locks it so she can’t web-surfing. This new Kindle Fire comes with HD quality screen and this will keep the kids entertained on road trips and more. Highly recommend!

I considered the cotton candy machine. I used to make cotton candy and it was so much fun, though I don’t care to eat it. My biggest problem with it is finding room for it in my kitchen! The karaoke machine is a great idea. My kids love to sing. The little one can’t read yet but I can just hear her belting out the tunes!! Great list!
