It was the second week of June and summer was in full force. The days were hot and none of us liked leaving our air conditioned home longer than we had to. On a hot Sunday morning, my husband headed out to get some items needed for a fun Sunday breakfast he wanted to make “for my girls.” We have one car and the store only a few minutes away, so I thought nothing of it. Almost 40 minutes later I got a call.
“There was an accident. I’ll call you back.”
My husband. Such tact right? Ha. After texting and calling him like crazy, he called back in 5 mins. He wanted to take pictures, get witness numbers and insurance info. So I guess my panicking was the minor thing cause he was doing the right stuff (Pfft). When he finally came home, he said, “The a&%hole was texting. He was sending a damn text and hit me.” Below is the result of what texting did to my car.
My car was in the shop for almost a full month and the repair estimate was at about $6,000. We also had a rental that cost about $200/wk. The guy that hit us actually came out of his car and said “Oh sorry man, I had to send a text.” That text now cost him almost $7,000 and that’s with no injuries. I know that it could have been worse and I thank God every day my daughter, or nephews weren’t in the car that day. One of them would have been next to that door and I don’t know what would have happened then. My husband had minor whiplash but was more upset about the repairs to our car. I only have this to say to the guy who hit my car.
Texting while driving is involved in 100,000+ vehicle crashes each year, often causing injuries and deaths. We were one of the lucky ones, but I worry that someday we won’t be. Please take the pledge with me and take the no texting and driving pledge. Watch the video below and share your pledge on AT&T’s Facebook page. We could be saving each other lives just by pledging.
