This is part of a compensated campaign with Latina Mom Bloggers and Ford. However, all opinions expressed are my own.
In the late 60′s, my grandparents came here from Peru and established a whole new life for themselves and their 4 kids. By 1999, the time the picture above was taken, their were grandchildren and even a great grandchild. 14 yrs later, that family above now has added 2 more grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. We’ve all grown and we all are Americans but the one thing all of us have taken from my grandparents, is the celebration of our culture. Every day I find myself doing something or saying something my abuelita says. We celebrate our heritage in the way we cook our meals and the way we celebrate each other and most of all, we celebrate it by living the lives our grandparents gave us.
That is what celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month means to me. Honoring our past but living in our present. It’s the gift my grandparents gave us and the future I hope for my daughter. The way to do that is to learn about, honor and celebrate our rich history and starting tonight on PBS, you can catch the LATINO AMERICANS series.
LATINO AMERICANS is a three-part, six-hour series will document the history and experiences of Latinos, who have helped to shape North America over the last 500 years. LATINO AMERICANS will feature interviews with Puerto Rican star of West Side Story, Rita Moreno; Mexican-American author and commentator Linda Chavez, who also became the highest ranking woman in the Reagan White House; and Cuban singer and entrepreneur Gloria Estefan.
Ford Motor Company is a proud member of the Hispanic community and as such is honored to be involved in the Latino Americans series on PBS. I love that Ford is such a big sponsor of something as great as this series. I recently got a chance to try out a Ford Escape, and let me tell you… for my large Latino family, it was perfect to carry everything and we created memories to last a lifetime.
