My daughter has been enamored with American Girl for the past couple years. I remember the day I brought home her first doll, the second I unveiled her, the smile and that little squeal….priceless. Her doll is always with her, and since that first we have added a Bitty Baby and Cecile to our growing collection and I don’t think it’ll stop there.
Last year, her August birthday landed on a weekday. What we normally do is have her stay in from school and have a day for just her and us. Well, guess what she chose to do?
At The Grove, in Los Angeles, there is a gorgeous American Girl store complete with a hair salon and a cafe! When I looked up the menu and all that would be part of dining there, I knew this was a perfect choice to spend this special day with our girl.
I booked our reservations easily for lunch and my daughter grabbed one of her dolls to help her celebrate. I knew the cafe was something unique and special, but I was blown away at the entire experience. Her doll was seated, and treated, just as any guest complete with little plates for little doll nibbles. I go to lots of places that are geared for kids, but I have to say, that the dining experience at American Girl is truly a family experience. Both my husband and I were able to enjoy our meals that consisted of a salad (mine – YUM) or a Cafe Burger (his) while my daughter enjoyed her favorite, pizza.
Meals come complete with a first course: cute kabobs of fruit and cheese, along with veggie and dips, then an entree, followed by a Sweet Surprise. Our girl loved every second…and it didn’t end at the café!
When we walked in, she noticed the American Girl Doll Hair Salon and wanted to give her doll a new ‘do. So, after the cafe, we headed down, picked out a hairstyle and ribbon and watched as one of the staff gave her doll a new look!
My daughter walked out feeling elated and we knew that we gave her an experience she would never forget. That, to us, is priceless.
