I recently checked out a first look trailer for Mad Max: Fury Road (below), which was just released at San Diego Comic-Con 2014. I watched it without knowing anything about Mad Max. Looking at the title I thought it could have been a video game turned into a movie. Turns out it was a popular movie in the late 70’s- early 80s starring Mel Gibson (one of my favorite actors and directors).
The trailer is a beautiful and artistic first peek into the revamp and pays an exciting homage to the original Mad Max series. For those who don’t know the story (like myself), here’s a summary: Mad Max is an Australian policeman who sets out to avenge the death of his partner, which sets off a chain of events that result in the death of his wife and son and spirals Max into a series of high speed chases and non stop action.
The cinematography looks beautiful and the action scenes look very well choreographed. More importantly, who doesn’t want to see Tom Hardy and Charlize Theron kicking butt and taking names?
Mad Max stars Tom Hardy (seen in The Dark Knight Rises, Bronson, Inception) and Charlize Theron (Prometheus, Hancock, The Italian Job). Knowing those two magnificent actors are in the film leads me to believe it’s going to be a fun movie with top notch acting. But I know there are many Mad Max purists out there. What do you think? Tom Hardy or Mel Gibson?
I love a good remake and can’t wait for this film to to be released.
Mad Max: Fury Road opens May 15, 2015.
