A couple of weeks ago I went to a screening of The Maze Runner. Prior to watching the film I didn’t know about the book series and that it had such a huge fan following. I’m really glad I know about it now. It was a great film and I really liked meeting the cast as well. I learned quite a bit about the behind the scenes action. Here are five things you didn’t know about the Maze Runner cast.
1. None of the cast had read or knew about the book series prior to signing on.
Dylan O’Brien: “I didn’t know about the book or start reading it until I was aware of the project and that I was doing the movie.”
I hadn’t read the book or known about the series prior to watching the film myself. However, the film stands on its own and can be enjoyed without having read the books. So, if you don’t know about The Maze Runner series, don’t worry about it, you will still enjoy the film.
2. There was no behind the scenes drama.
Will Poulter: “It became a real kind of family, you know, and very, very close indeed and we kind of looked after each other. There was varying levels of experience in terms of life and also acting, some adults helped us make this. We had a little help in that respect. But it was an amazing kind of experience.”
Will was definitely not lying. I had the opportunity to meet the cast and they seemed like they all really like each other. You can tell they created a bond when making the film.
3. The Maze Runner is not a “teen love story”.
Thomas Brodie-Sangster: “I mean, not every teenager is in and out of love all the time. I certainly never fell in love as a teenager. I never even had a girlfriend as a teenager. So, I don’t think you have to put that into every teen film. I personally loved the fact that that was never present.”
I’m glad it’s an action-adventure focused film because the whole teen romance thing is not always necessary.
4. The Maze Runner fans are very loyal and cool.
Will Poulter: “We’ve all just had such amazing experiences with the fans. Right after we all got announced to be involved, people following us were saying, oh, I’m so glad you’re playing Newt, so glad you’re playing Teresa. They are generally very kind of positive fans.”
I have to agree with Will. I made several tweeting errors and all the fans were quick to correct me but in a nice way. No one was rude about it and they could’ve been. There are some serious Maze Runner fans out there!
5. Prediction: The Maze Runner cast will become household names.
Ki Hong Lee: “None of my other roles can compare with this one–or Minho or any of these guys. I think–let’s see. I played a high school student, another high school student…”
The cast doesn’t have a huge blockbuster list of films on their respective resumes, but you wouldn’t know that from their performances, especially Ki Hong Lee. He may seem shy but he can sure take over a scene!
