You would think that the amazing live-action line up they filled us with at the D23 Expo for the first part was enough. But oh, no. They made sure our mind were fully blown by presenting the Lucasfilm Star Wars presentation last. While Director JJ Abrams did keep his promise that there would not be any new footage debuted at D23, we got world changing updates. But first, a glimpse into the Lucasfilm universe.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens
JJ is hard at work editing the picture. They are adding in John Williams’ score and JJ stated that he is excited to see everything coming together. He compared listening to Williams play his music on his piano as “like hearing music from the Gods.”
Cast members Oscar Issac, Daisy Riddley, John Boyega and Lupita (check it you guys, Lupita IS Disney) came out to join JJ and then, Han Solo himself, Harrison Ford came out to a standing ovation and then proclaimed his joy at being a part of Star Wars.
Gareth Edwards is hard at work shooting and we got to see the first scene of the film shot at a distance on a sandy landscape. We also got to see the first cast image, which stars stars Felicity Jones, Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Jiang Wen, Forest Whitaker, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, and Riz Ahmed.
Han Solo Standalone:
Chris Miller and Phil Lord will be directing but not writing the script for the Solo origin film. Lawrence Kasdan and son Jon Kasdan will be scripting. Too early for casting announcements (prediction: Ansel Elgort), or really much else yet.
Colin Trevorrow will indeed be directing this film, however, with mega hit Jurassic World under his belt it was like DUH.
So, the films kinda were teases and gave us a little look into what the Lucasfilm universe has in the works but, they were slowly creeping up to a BIG, HUGE, MAJOR secret.
THE BIG ANNOUNCEMENT
STAR WARS LAND IS HAPPENING! THIS IS NOT A TEST! IT’S REALLY HAPPENING!
Both Disneyland and Disney World will be getting the 14 acre Star Wars Land addition. This is by far, Disney Theme Parks biggest expansion to date. It will be an authentic transportation to the worlds in a galaxy far, far away. The parks will be made to seem like a pitstop along the way to bigger worlds. Guests will be fully immersed as everything will recreate the world with its native beings and diverse species. The first two E-ticket rides announced will give you the opportunity to pilot the Millennium Falcon, as well as join in on a fight with Storm troopers. Nothing will be out of character and Star Wars fans will be able to join in on the adventure of their lives. Other features of the land will be a Cantina, performers and shops styled to fit into the narrative of that universe that we can finally be apart of.
At the end of the presentation, we were given D23 Expo exclusive posters for the Jungle Book and The Force Awakens. Star Wars fans were happy to see art by Drew Struzan, who’s designed the special edition covers as well as the prequel posters. Not only that, but the posters revealed John Boyega’s character Finn wielding a LIGHTSABER! That’s right, he has the force!! Han Solo is also being included on the cover, he’s the only one of the returning cast members on it. Fans are speculating this may be because Han will die in the film. Would explain the happiness wouldn’t it though? That Harrision Ford is something.
So, Star Wars fans- what do you think? Did you faint or was that just me?
