Airport hotels generally score low on style, cleanliness and comfort points, but they do have one major redeeming factor — their proximity to your flight’s departure gate. Well, I have an exception to tell you about! The Residence Inn by Marriott Los Angeles at LAX/Century Boulevard is the newest hotel to open at LAX in more than 20 years.
I recently flew in from NYC and spent an evening at the Residence Inn with my family. And I have nothing but gold stars for this “airport hotel.” The location was surprisingly quiet (given its busy location) and the perfect way to unwind with my family before heading home to reality. I would recommend this new hotel to travelers, vacationers or even local residences looking for a good local getaway deal. This summer the Residence Inn at Marriott is offering a special introductory rate starting at $179 per night for a Studio King Suite*, valid through Sept. 30, 2015.
Located a half-mile from the airport entrance, the new Residence Inn by Marriott LAX/Century Boulevard offers a contemporary design in its 231 full-service suites and many public spaces. In addition to its convenience to the airport, it’s location also makes it easy to hit many of LA’s well-known destinations, including Manhattan Beach, El Segundo, the South Bay, Santa Monica, Venice Beach, Downtown LA and Hollywood.
The hotel appears to be designed primarily for business travelers in mind with its full-service kitchens in all of their studio, one-bedroom and two-bedroom suites, along with complimentary Wi-Fi, large tables and desks, and complimentary hot or cold breakfast with a convenient to-go option. I have never spotted so many USB outlets in a hotel – our room and all the common areas gave unlimited options to plug in all our devices.
Since I was there to relax more than meet deadlines, my favorite spot was the pool area. The space is nicely surrounded by palm trees with fire pits and large comfy patio chairs. I easily forgot where I was and could have fallen asleep under the stars.
A great added convenience for visitors in a rush is an array of restaurant options, including a full service Starbucks, Jersey Mike’s Subs and Zpizza and Tap Room all located within the hotel. And a free airport shuttle appears every 20 minutes at the front lobby. While my husband enjoyed his fresh coffee from Starbucks, we were psyched to see the staff at Jersey Mikes making our delicious sandwich to order with freshly cut meats while we waited. The line was long, but worth the wait.
The rooms were clean and comfortable. The decor is stylish with large, sectional sofa with a pull-out bed feature in the sitting areas, big well-appointed bathrooms and lots of natural light from the room windows. Our bathroom featured only a shower stall, so if a bathtub is a priority for you make sure to ask. It was so welcoming I felt as though I could live there! Guests view options include the LAX runways, Hollywood Hills, downtown LA or a peek at the Pacific from the suites. I enjoyed our LAX runway view — my daughter and I imaged our next trip together!
Additional services include a grocery delivery service, a 24-hour on-site food and beverage market, dry cleaning service and laundry facilities and business center. Overlooking the pool, the hotel boasts a 1,200 square-foot fitness center with 10 Life Fitness cardio machines each with it’s own entertainment center and ARKE™ Core Centric Training equipment by Technogym.
Our interactions with the hotel staff were all positive. The check in was quick and wait staff were very attentive. The general manager was visibly interacting with guests and appeared to take pride in his hotel and the guests’ comfort.
Residence Inn participates in the company’s award winning Marriott Rewards frequent travel program that allows members to earn hotel points or airline miles for every dollar spent during each stay, and the property proudly offers pet-friendly accommodations.
