Netflix has finally released the official trailer for Marvel’s Jessica Jones!
Premiering on November 20, 2015 at 12:01am PT everywhere Netflix is available, the 13 episode series is executive produced by Melissa Rosenberg (Dexter,Twilight), Liz Friedman (“Elementary”), along with Jeph Loeb (“Marvel’s Daredevil,” “Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.”).
Following the success of Daredevil, the newest Netflix Original live action adventure is an adaptation of Brian Michael Bendis’ gritty noir-esque ALIAS comics about Jessica Jones an ex-superhero who uses her powers to make a quick buck as a private investigator.
The show stars Krysten Ritter (Breaking Bad) as Jessica and from the looks of it, she is nailing it in keeping true to her spirit in the comics. Jones takes on cases that require an extra set of muscle, which she has as her power is incredible super strength, to score cash to keep the whiskey coming. Living to just get by, her routine is interrupted when her past returns to reek havoc on her life and her city. David Tennant (Doctor Who) plays Kilgrave, more monster than man, who’s power is to make anyone do what he wants them to do. You can tell from the trailer that any experience with him in traumatizing, Jones’ drinking habit and PTSD understandable. Tennant already sounds menacing and charming at the same time, it’s utterly frightening. Whether or not they’ll scale back on the atrocities the character commits seems unlikely. He gets into your brain and it’s pretty much game over. The clip where he gets into a family’s home and holds the police station hostage are particularly jarring. This show is more adult than anything Marvel we’ve ever seen.
With the help of fellow supes Luke Cage (Mike Colter) and Hellcat Trish Walker (Rachel Taylor), Jessica has to overcome the demons from her past as they hunt for her. It’s so exciting to see a female character like Jones be given a series as she is one of Marvel’s most dynamic personalities. She’s an anti-hero, she’s been through some trauma that left her deeply scarred, she’s a smart-ass who can take a punch and throw the idiot who threw it over her shoulder. To see an adaptation of her story come to life on Netflix will give Marvel fans and even casual viewers a different side of the comic book world that is’t always about the big intergalactic villains but rather the ones that could be right next door, preying on the innocent.
Jessica Jones premieres on November 20th 2015.
