Wednesday night Sassy Mama in LA attended the Los Angeles premiere party for Fox’s Sunday comedy shows Son of Zorn and The Last Man on Earth. In attendance were Last Man’s creator/star Will Forte along with cast members which included Kristen Schaal and the amazing Mary Steenburgen. At one point inside Breakroom 86, an 80’s themed night club where the event was held, The Power of Love came on and what a world it was to be in the same room with Steenburgen as the music from the Back to the Future blared at the party. She played Doc Brown’s wife in the 3rd film.
From the Son of Zorn cast we saw star Cheryl Hines and Johnny Pemberton. The very small and intimate gathering took place over drinks and appetizers where everyone mingled to 80’s hits. There was even a fun photo booth to entertain yourself with.

As the evening went on, guests were treated to a couple of premiere episodes for the shows being celebrated. Son of Zorn‘s second episode was screened which followed Zorn (Jason Sudeikis), an animated warrior from a war torn country, in his attempts to be more present in the life of son (Johnny Pemberton) with his ex-wife (Cheryl Hines). Moving to suburbia to be nearby proves difficult for the family as his ex is now moving on and his son is a teen who’s at that age where he just doesn’t want to be embarrassed by his family. However with Zorn back in the picture, it’s just that which happens. The episode centers on Zorn using a mystical eye that helps him spy on his son’s crush to give him intel which eventually goes sour when he mom discovers what’s going on when realizing Zorn’s been using it on her. He refuses to accept they’re divorced. The off the wall animation/live-action mash up is a blast and we can’t wait to see where they’re going to go with it as both worlds collide.
With The Last Man on Earth, the show’s star and creator Will Forte did ask us to refrain from giving too much away. He told us to ‘Keep the secrets’, riffing on J.K. Rowling’s phrase for Cursed Child. I think we’ll be fine if we say Kristen Schaal would be all of us in her situation. Seeing what happens when surprises drop on the survivors is a riot and we laughed till tears rolled from our eyes at one specific moment. When you see it, you’ll know.
After the shows, the party food came out to continue to eat and drink the night away. Exploring the place we discovered private karaoke booths lined along the gym locker walls which we did make use of along with guests in attendance. Inside they looked like small, dark, recording booths with a huge selection of Karaoke tracks. It was kind of hilarious that once everyone realized there were karaoke rooms, they all filled up with everyone there and the bar area was pretty abandoned unless people came out to grab drinks.
Fans of both shows are in for great laughs when The Last Man on Earth and Son of Zorn premiere on Fox this Sunday!
