I don’t know about you, but I have been waiting a REALLY long time for Disney’s “Moana” to make it’s debut (Check out my interview with Lin-Manuel Miranda and my “Moana” Family review). I mean, not only does it explore on a culture rarely touched before, but add in Lin-Manuel Miranda creating music for it and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson as one of it’s stars, PLUS the very directors that brought to life Ariel and Jasmine were bringing Moana to fruition…I knew it was going to be special.
So then when Disney invited me to attend the world premiere of “Moana”, I knew just the person I wanted to share this very special movie with, my own fierce heroine- my daughter, Sofia.
Usually I take a ton of selfies with celebrities at premieres. It’s kind of my thing…and I rock it. But, this time, there were so many sights and sounds to see.
I walked and absorbed it all and let my daughter have some fun with her friend…like I did with mine:
The food was an array of Polynesian-Hawaiian inspired food, starting with Dole smoothies. I wish I took pictures of the food, but, to be honest, by the time I got the food, I was so hungry, I devoured it all.
Of course, there were a ton of celebrities walking the carpet and enjoying the sights as well.
There were performances…
including one by “Moana” herself, newcomer Auli’i Cravalho
AND!!! Lin-Manuel Miranda and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson
The performances didn’t end there…once we were in the theater we were treated to a performance by Opetaia Foi’a, who wrote the music for “Moana”
I admit, I go to a lot of premieres but this one, was truly special. The movie itself was incredible…just stunning, really, to look at. But the celebration of such a rich and beautiful culture in the film and how carefully the Disney team put together the premiere to honor that too… that’s truly something to be in awe about.
My daughter was on cloud 9, and it will truly be an experience we will never forget. Thanks Disney!
