3 Easy Ways to help Manage Your Allergies

05/19/2017 by Yolanda Machado

I am participating in a FLUVIP program on behalf of Claritin(R). This program is paid for by the makers of Claritin(R) and I have received compensation for my participation. All opinions expressed are my own.

It happened very quickly. Those brisk and rainy days ended, and suddenly the sun was bright, the air was warm and… AH-… AH-…. AH-CHOO!! Excuse me! Ok, let’s be real. Spring may look good, but, if you’re like me, you dread it. It took me about 2 years of suffering through the sneezing, itchy eyes, and boxes upon boxes of tissues to finally ask my doctor. I truly believed that I just had a “really bad cold” that lasted too long, so when I finally my doctor said, “you have allergies”, I was in disbelief.

I am an allergy sufferer. I don’t know why it took me so long to see a doctor about it, or even, how I suddenly felt like I was weak. Would this be my new reality every Spring?

First off, allergies are not a weakness. I learned that an ‘allergy’ is a sensitivity of your immune system to something that is ordinarily harmless. When your body tries to get rid of the ‘allergen’ (foreign substance), you experience symptoms like sneezing, itchy, watery eyes, a runny nose,. Typical allergens include those from pet dander, pollen, dust mites, and mold.

Here are a few easy tips that help me manage my allergies:

  1. Invest in an air purifier. This device removes contaminants from the air in your home or room(s) and gives clean air for you to breathe, lessening your exposure to allergy triggers. . Keep the windows and doors closed to protect your indoor air.
  2. Try using a nasal rinse kit. You can purchase one in a pharmacy or drug store. Be careful to follow the directions as adverse events can result if you do not use the product as directed.
  3. Talk to your doctor about what over the counter medicine would work best for you and your symptoms. Allergy products can relieve different symptoms and can have different use instructions. It is important to always read and follow directions on the product label.

Millions of people have all kinds of nasal allergies. Thanks to the #1 doctor recommended non-drowsy oral allergy brand Claritin, many are living full, fun lives in the sun, with plenty of green grass and flowers around, and enjoying the outdoors, once more, with their loved ones! It’s time you stop considering your allergies a weakness, and start enjoying blue skies!
