Lucasfilm, the newest addition to the Walt Disney Studios conglomerate, was the second studio in the pipeline to get their plug in with the massive crowd gathered at D23 in Anaheim today. Though the only thing Horn would say about the HAN SOLO movie is, “looking forward to sharing more details with you soon,” there was a sustentative amount to reveal to us about STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI.
Naturally, they did not disappoint, trotting out onto the stage writer-director Rian Johnson and his wonderful and talented ensemble. Mark Hamill, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Gwendoline Christie, Kelly Marie Tran, Laura Dern and Benicio Del Toro. Our favorite sci-fi squad warmed the crowd with their jovial attitudes and anecdotes– specifically the one Johnson told about Dern saying, “Pew” as she fired her gun. “I didn’t remember that you’re not supposed to say the things you said when you were eight,” defended Dern.
They treated us to a special treat: a sneak peek of the behind-the-scenes footage from the heavily anticipated release – one you too can watch below.
Here are my top quick hot takes:
- Dern’s purple hair is my new lewk
- Johnson’s wookie imitation is MY EVERYTHING
- That shot of the red dirt exploding is dazzling
- Carrie Fisher’s presence here brought an unexpected tear to my eye
- We need ALL the GiFs of Ridley and Boyega dancing now
- The alien creatures look adorable. I can haz?!
In THE LAST JEDI, which shot for 100 days, the saga picks up right where THE FORCE AWAKENS left off – with Rey (Ridley) and Skywalker (Hammill) on the rocks. “Finn’s about to have a fight with a formidable opponent,” spilled Boyega.
The sci-fi epic also stars Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Anthony Daniels.
STAR WARS: THE LAST JEDI opens on December 15, 2017.
